Mustard is entirely optional. If you like it in your potato salad then you'll like it in your macaroni salad.
If you use regular yellow mustard, I wouldn't put more than 2 measured teaspoons. It adds a little kick but too much and your dressing is ruined.
If you us Dijon mustard then I'd use a tablespoon or more.
The bottom line here is....taste as you go.Does macaroni salad call for mustard in the recipe?
I don't use it in mine. But it will give you an added zip.Does macaroni salad call for mustard in the recipe?

Mine does.I use Guldens Spicy
It is an optional yet traditional ingredient..... depending on how I am feeling about changing the flavor of my salads..... I use: yellow mustard, brown mustard, very spicy mustard...but try using a small amount of horseradish.....
All are good.....just have fun cooking and don't be afraid to experiment a bit.
It's an optional ingredient, but adds a whole lot of zip to the taste.
If you don't like regular mustard, dijonnaise works very nicely :)
It can be added to the mayonnaise to spice that up.
